Many Waters, Love Endures

Hawai‘i Vocal Arts Ensemble kicks off our thirty-fourth season with Many Waters, Love Endures. The program features two settings of the famous Biblical text from Song of Solomon, “many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.”

Complementary selections from Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder & Neues Liebeslieder waltzes for chorus & piano 4-hands are dazzling in their virtuosity. Works by contemporary composers Sarah Quartel, Craig Hella Johnson, & Elaine Hagenberg showcase lyrical cello lines in addition to the choir’s soaring melodies. Additional pieces by John Dowland, Michael McGlynn, Clara Schumann, & Norman Dello Joio round out the program.
